About Us

You have found the Carolina Homespun website and I am glad you did. Carolina Homespun was started some 14 years ago by Merike Saarnit in her then home of North Carolina. Some years later she and the company moved to Virginia.  A few years later Merike decided to focus on her fabulous hand painted yarns and sold Carolina Homespun. The company later came to me and to San Francisco, California in May of 2002.  What an adventure this has been so far and i am glad you are here to share it with me!

I learned to knit and crochet as a child and learned much, much later to spin and I fell in love! Now I have a house full of fiber and spinning wheels and a studio/shop in my garage. I share my home with my life partner of 25+ years, Lann,  and 7 cats. Two of our cats are rescue kitties and spend most of their time outside by their own choice. Then we have the Siamese gang - Maggie, our queen and 3 of her kittens from 2 different litters - Merlin from the first and Cleo and Pip from the second.

This is Maggie trying to find a comfortable place for her way too big belly while she was pregnant. And of course she found a box of really expensive yarn waiting to be dyed to settle in!

As promised! Merlin was helping me take the pictures for the website and is just sure this is his color. How much does it take for a kitten scarf?

Every year I do several road trips traveling to shows all over the country.  Merlin always goes along and is a fabulous traveling companion, and now Maggie has become a regular traveler too.  Cleo and Pip have opted to stay home after their initial adventures - they just didn't want to be "roadies".
